How to go about playing basic Pinochle
The basic Pinochle game is also known as Auction Pinochle. The game involves three players and the key objective is to amass points in both melds and play. 48-card decks are used. The deck is created from two standard decks from which all deuces through 8’s have been dropped. The cards rank from high to low i.e. A-10 K-Q-J-9.
Fifteen cards are dealt to each player and traditionally this is done in bunches of three. Three cards are also dealt to a kitty also known as the facedown widow. The bidding begins with the player sitting at the dealer’s left. The lowest bid made is 250 points; the bids increase by 10 points after this. If a player passes he or she cannot reenter the bid. The auction closes when two players pass. The objective for a player is to at least score as many points as the bid placed.
Whoever wins the bid is declared the bidder. He or she turns the three cards in the kitty and adds them to hand. On checking, the bidder may find that the cards and meld won’t reach the bid. One can then concede and lose the bid amount. If the bid has been reached or exceeded, the play ceases and the bidder scores the game’s value. |
